Insiders Guide to Submodalities

Richard Bandler

&

An Insider's Guide to Submodalities, is a step-by-step nlp manual that enables you to use Submodalities to improve the quality of your own life and to assist others to make generative changes in their behavior. Submodalities are the nlp component elements of representational systems: visual, auditory, kinesthetic, olfactory, and gustatory. We take information in from the external world using our five senses, and those same senses are utilized internally to process information. We see pictures, hear sounds and have feelings on the inside. People use predicates (verbs, adverbs, and adjectives) specific to the representational system they are functioning in. As you listen to the language people use, they are much more specific than that. You must begin to hear the language they use to describe their experience and to take it literally. People will talk about "needing to get things in perspective" or "wanting some distance" from a problem. These are Submodality descriptions and they will tell you a lot about what is influencing someone. NLP™ is a set of skills, techniques, it is a methodology. The nlp methodology requires you to go slowly and to make comparisons. To operate on this level means that you go down to the most basic components of brain processing. From what we know at this time, those basic components are the Submodalities. You can begin to notice that it takes a very small incremental shift on the structure of subjectivity to be able to make a change. Beginning to do this slowly and methodically is also the process by which you will sort out the Submodalities and begin to understand how to make transitions in your own brain.

Letters of Milton H. Erickson Vol 1.

Jeffrey Zeig

&

In these letters there are aspects of Erickson's life that have never before been revealed publicly. Herein, we are privy to Erickson, the man, in a way that provides new insights into his awesome power as a clinician, a researcher, a theorist, and an individual. As a reader, you will meet the luminaries with whom Erickson interacted, both in the field of psychiatry and in related disciplines. Sit in on Erickson as he consults on cases with renowned psychoanalysts, exchanges views with Gregory Bateson and Margaret Mead, and discusses research issues with Stanley Milgram. Erickson's contributions to psychology have been described as encompassing five main streams - strategic psychotherapy, the Mental Research Institute, solution-focused therapy, the psychobiological approach of Ernest Rossi, and the Neo-Ericksonians, including Michael Yapko, Stephen Gilligan, and Carol and Stephen Lankton. The fields of individual, couples, and family psychotherapy continue to reverberate as a result of Erickson's influence. In Volume I of The Erickson Letters we gain access to the man and his work through his own words, unfiltered and unencumbered. The rich and vast intellect of a creative genius emerges - not to show us up, but to show us out of the prison of mediocrity.

Magic in Action

Richard Bandler

&

Magic in Action shows the ways in which I use humor and speed to work with clients. It gives the layman an idea of what an NLP session should be like. I constantly joke with clients about their problems in order to cure them of seriousness, which is what locks the model down. You get serious, you get stuck. Humor is the fastest way to reverse this process. As soon as you can laugh about something, you can change it. The difference between a book and real-life experience cannot be overestimated. Books are sequential, life interactions are not. But part of developing expertise is breaking complex processes into pieces. If you can become skilled at that, you'll learn and achieve that much more when you go for life's performances. Remember, though, to put the pieces back together into one whole. You don't just use the nlp meta-model or timelines; you're using them all as detection tools, not as diagnostic tools. They tell you where to intervene to help people process information in a way that is more useful. The nlp techniques used in the client sessions and demonstrations, like the swish pattern or the phobia cure, are by now archaic. These techniques are not what constitute NLP. There are many solutions in every situation; if the only way way you can get results is by a formatted fix, you are not a Neuro-Linguistic Programmer, you are a therapist with some NLP techniques.

Metaphors in Mind: Transformation Through Symbolic Modelling

James Lawley & Penny Tompkins

&

What do you do as a therapist, teacher, doctor or manager when your client, student, patient or colleague says "It's like I'm hitting my head against a brick wall," "I've got a knot in my stomach" or "I'm looking for the right path to take"?

Metaphors in Mind describes how to give individuals an opportunity to discover how their symbolic perceptions are organised, what needs to happen for these to change, and how they can develop as a result.

Based on David Grove's pioneering therapeutic approach and use of Clean Language, Symbolic Modelling is an emergent, systemic and iterative way of facilitating the psychotherapeutic process.

This comprehensive book covers the theory of metaphor, self-organising systems, symbolic modelling, the practice of Clean Language, the five-stage therapeutic process, and includes three client transcripts.

Modelling with NLP

Robert Dilts

&

Thomas Jefferson once said, "If two individuals get together and exchange a dollar, they each walk away with one dollar. If the same individuals get together and exchange an idea, they both walk away with two ideas." In many ways, this statement expresses the vastly generative potential or "economics" of modeling. Modeling is the process of taking a complex event or phenomenon and breaking it into small enough chunks so that it can be recapitulated or applied in some way. Behavioral modeling involves observing and mapping the successful processes which underlie an exceptional performance of some type. The purpose of behavior modeling is to create a pragmatic map or 'model' of a particular behavior which can be used to reproduce or simulate some aspect of that performance by anyone who is motivated to do so.

Patterns of Hypnotic Techniques of

Milton Erickson Vol 1

Richard Bandler & John Grinder

&

Of Volume I, Dr. Erickson wrote, "Although this nlp book by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, to which I am contributing this Preface, is far from being a complete description of my methodologies (as they clearly state), it is a much better explanation of how I work than I myself can give." In short, the authors have formalized hypnosis in such a way as to open the door for medical, clinical, dental, and research uses of the vast potential of hypnosis.
